Spotify Playlist Notee

Welcome to Notee!

I am really glad you're here. Music can be so important in our lives and the access we have today to so many genres and time periods across the various streaming services is unprecedented and wonderful. As my daughters have grown, one of the primary ways we've connected has been around music (just like I did with my parents). When my oldest daughter asked me to make a playlist of some music for her, I wanted to be able to tell her why I picked the songs I picked, and hopefully share my appreciation with her as she listened. Notee was born to make that one specific playlist. But I know we're not the only dad and daughter that have connected around music, nor is that the only use case for the services this tool offers. My friends and I would have loved a tool like this during the birth of grunge. The idea of being able to build out a setlist of a concert and add notes for specific memories to share with my daughter (or the world) gets me giddy. As an amateur musician, I love the idea of creating a playlist of songs to practice and reference notes to help me improve. Study notes based on an audiobook (or videos as we add more services), would have been great in college. But those are just my ideas. Please enjoy and use the tool however you want. To welcome you to Notee and introduce myself, I've pulled together this short playlist of a few songs that are very meaningful to me. Enjoy! ~ Bryan

Froggy Went A Courtin
Froggy Went A Courtin
Doc Watson
Songs for Little Pickers
The first concert I ever remember attending was a Doc Watson show at (I believe) a high school theater. I wasn't more than 5 or 6. While I'm sure I had heard a lot of his music by that time, the only song I knew by name (and my favorite) was his version of Froggy Went a Courtin'. When he hadn't played it by intermission, my dad suggested I go up to the stagehand and request it. Interesting side note - the stagehand was a boy scout in uniform that was probably an early teenager. I'm surprised I wasn't more hesitant at the idea of walking on stage and asking for something from a (surely) intimidating teenager in a position of authority, but I suppose I really wanted to hear Froggy. At any rate, I did and he said something to the effect of 'I'll let him know you asked'. When intermission ended, Doc came back on stage and said 'I don't usually do this song, but I've had a special request...' Of course it was Froggy, played just for me. I've been a fan ever since, not just of the music, but of the man. And if you think that's a good story, ask me about part 2 that happened almost 25 years later. It's even better.

Can't You See
The Marshall Tucker Band
The Marshall Tucker Band
My parents have always loved music so it has been a large part of my life. As a result, I've received a pretty good musical education, and we're trying to do the same with both of our children. One of my early favorite memories is sitting on the front porch of an old farmhouse we rented listening to my parents and their friends play music. 'Can't You See' was one of my favorites to hear - the flute solos made it very memorable to a preschooler.

Blue Skies
Blue Skies
Willie Nelson
Stardust
Blue Skies was another song from my early memory, and I thank my dad for his interest in Willie, that led to my interest. This song also has additional special meaning as it was the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding.

Ricky Montgomery
Montgomery Ricky
Two of the best things about having kids are when they get old enough to tell you new jokes and when they're old enough to expose you to new music. My youngest has recently been listening to some really wild stuff that brings some freshness to our go to music. Ricky Montgomery is pretty representative of it, but also Lemon Demon, Tally Hall, Alex G, and that ilk.

Beach Bunny
Sports
My oldest child's first concert they picked was Beach Bunny. It was great to be able to share that experience with them. Sports was the first Beach Bunny song they shared with the family, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Ænima
I've been an amateur drummer since middle school. Danny Carey is one of my two favorite drummers. The solo in Forty Six & 2 that starts at 4:32 and goes until 5:06 is one of the best half minutes in music.

Say Goodbye
Say Goodbye
Dave Matthews Band
Crash
My other favorite drummer is Carter Beauford. Atomic clocks set their time to his drumming. The intro to Say Goodbye, starting with the first beat through those sextuplet-feel runs that resolve into the crash at 1:08, followed by him instantly locking in that metronomic groove, still gives me chills after 1000s of listens.
